Abu Dhabi, UAE: The NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Festival has announced a public talk titled: The Intellectual Crossroads of Al-Andalus: How Andalusi Scholars Shaped the Global Islamic Culture, which will take place at the NYUAD Campus Conference Center on Tuesday, March 7 at 6:30pm.

Part of the “Al-Andalus” series and the collaboration between NYUAD and the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), the lecture delves into the intellectual discoveries and legacy of the Andalusi scholars.

Speaker Maribel Fierro, Research Professor, High Council for Scientific Research in Madrid, will elaborate on the success of Andalusi scholars, their contributions to fields of science, literature, and music, and how their experiences are perceived in the modern world.

Al-Andalus is the name given to the Muslim kingdom that occupied large parts of the Iberian Peninsula from 711 CE until the fall of the Spanish Umayyad dynasty in the early 11th century. The Andalusi scholars’ cross-pollination of ideas and discoveries have set ideas, produced books and shaped transformative scientific disciplines worldwide, and for the “global” Islamic culture for centuries.
