Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Tawam Hospital, part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the biggest healthcare network and a subsidiary of the PureHealth Group – the UAE’s largest integrated healthcare platform, has announced the conclusion of the first Al Ain Maxillofacial Symposium recently at the Ayla Grand Hotel, Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi.

The interactive symposium included multidisciplinary team participation from a wide array of sector disciplines, including Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery (ENT), Head and Neck (H&N), Plastic surgery, Dentistry as well as allied practitioners (nursing, speech therapy, dental tech etc).

Led by Tawam Hospital, the symposium served as an academic platform discussing advanced care in complex craniomaxillofacial/head and neck conditions presented by expert speakers from across the UAE, GCC, and the UK. Topics covered fell under three primary areas: advances and developments, epidemiology & specialty data, and future perspectives.

The symposium agenda had an impressive line-up of several compelling sessions from local, regional, and international speakers. Dr. Eiad Qudairat from the UK delivered an engaging session on ‘Facial Beauty and Aesthetic Surgery’ while Dr. Hala Abuzaid from the UAE spoke on ‘Critical Care role in Multi-disciplinary Management of OMFS Patients’.

Bringing in a more regional perspective, Dr. Mohammed Kamal from Kuwait, shared a talk on ‘Research and Academic OMFS in the GCC – focus on Kuwait’. Additionally, Dr. Mohammed Al-Muharraqi from Bahrain and Dr. Ahmed Al Hashmi from Oman delivered talks on ‘OMFS Training & Services in Bahrain’ and ‘Outcomes of Management of common TMD problems: 14 years’ Experience’ respectively. These are only a few from a list of exceptional speakers who featured at this year’s symposium.

Closing the event, Dr Khalid Abdel-Galil, Chair of the Symposium, presented an engaging session on the local evolution of scientific and clinical activities within the maxillofacial field. The primary outcomes of the symposium included continued collaborations on scientific activities, innovation, and advancement of research, as well as a call for increased focus to set up required training pathways.
