Reflecting its commitment to promote sustainability initiatives and support the transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy, National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) sponsored Kuwait Sustainability Exhibition, which was organized at the Murouj Complex for 3 days from March 9th to 11th.

Through this strategic participation, NBK aims to promote sustainability culture among all segments of society and raise awareness on the importance of building a sustainable society in support of future generations, by actively contributing to sustainable environmental conservation in order to develop Kuwait’s economy in line with the highest international sustainable standards.

During the event, NBK’s team distributed children books and stories by the writer Hanadi Al-Awadi to build their understanding of environmental sustainability, in addition to, offering reusable water bottles to encourage reducing the use of plastic as part of its endeavors to promote sustainable behavior and environmental conservation.

The Exhibition included displaying over 20 Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid cars with the participation of over 20 companies from various industries, which showcased their products, services, and sustainable business practices to the visitors to raise awareness on the importance of environmental sustainability.

On this occasion, Manal Al Mattar, Head of Group Corporate Communications at National Bank of  Kuwait said: “NBK is committed to deliver on its responsibilities to supporting all sustainability initiatives that contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy and mitigation of climate change risks, while adopting international standards focused on climate and environmental preservation.”

“We always seeks to solidify our leading position as the most socially responsible local bank through strategic partnerships and sponsorships of social initiatives that contribute to economic development and environmental conservation, while empowering people towards building stronger and healthier societies,” she added.

Al Mattar stressed that NBK is committed to supporting the government’s sustainable development agenda, especially in its endeavors to achieve net-zero emissions, in a step to promote environmental, social, and economic prosperity, which comes in line with the Country’s recent pledge to become carbon neutral by 2060.”

It is worth mentioning that NBK plays a leading role in actively contributing to the transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy. As part of this commitment, National Bank of Kuwait has set interim goals to reduce its gross operational emissions by 25% by 2025. In this context, it announced transforming its branch network to become eco-friendly and magnify its reliance on renewable energy beyond 2025, within its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and support the Country’s strides to achieve its holistic sustainability vision under the New Kuwait Vision 2035.

In this context, NBK recently donated KD 3 million to finance Shuwaikh Beach Development and Beautification Project, reflecting its leadership as a major CSR player in Kuwait, and seeking to promote sustainable development in line with Kuwait National Development Plan.

NBK boasts having gone a long way in embracing the highest corporate governance standards as one of the key pillars embedded in its corporate culture and operational activities.
