During his visit to the New Valley governorate, Egypt’s Prime Minister – Dr. Mostafa Madbouly – witnessed Phase I commissioning for the domestic natural gas supply of Al-Kharga city.

Madbouly affirmed on the State’s sincere endeavors in optimizing the use of the country’s natural gas resources through providing proper support and follow-up to the ongoing national projects. From complementing houses with natural gas to converting automobiles to use it as alternative fuel, the government is striving to better the lives of people, while offering them superlative, competitive and eco-friendly services.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources - Eng. Tarek El Molla – announced that such initiative came to light reflecting the sound Presidential directives towards encouraging the utilization of natural gas across all Egyptian governorates. For the very first time, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is transported to Al-Kharga vicinity, meeting the needs of 14K families, 120 commercial premises, 34 town bakeries and 1 natural gas station.

Grids have been extended to 7K customers, installations have been set for 5.4K clients, conversions have been made to 4.2K agents and a natural gas station has been finally established to serve the 202 converted automobiles. A fully-fledged conversion center shall be inaugurated soon, pledging lucrative returns to citizens.

El Molla unveiled that 2 further phases shall consecutively perfect the successfully implemented one. Phase II will embrace Al-Dakhla city; supplying natural gas to 6K families, 25 town bakeries, and 1 natural gas station. Engineering works have been flawlessly completed. Phase III shall encompass Al-Mounira & Boulaq areas; delivering natural gas to 700 families. Engineering works and designs are currently in progress to generate electricity to 26 agricultural business developers at East Owainat and Farafra cities, replacing diesel fuel with natural gas.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources exhibited the pivotal role played by such marvelous project in shaping the future of the New Valley. Through properly supplying natural gas to Al-Kharga district, citizens shall enjoy sustainable, effortless and safe energy resource by saving the costly prices of gas cylinders. Thanks to the reduced carbon footprint, residents as well can experience better health and wellbeing. More job opportunities shall be availed and hands-on-job trainings will be conducted to create competent calibers for the oil & gas industry. In addition, no more foreign currency is requested to purchase imported Butane. Over and above, Al-Kharga’s fully-fledged conversion center shall alter 652 cabs and 18K vehicles to work with natural gas. 50% of the State’s expenditure has been saved by converting the governorate’s automobiles, with projected altering to further taxis and trucks in the near future.

The New Valley Governor noted that such prosperous project came as a fruitful outcome to the joint cooperation protocol accorded in 2020 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the New Valley governorate, together with TAQA Arabia.

In this regard, Executive Chairman of TAQA Arabia – Eng. Khaled Abubakr – declared that the company is providing natural gas to Al-Kharga city using (Mobile CNG); a state-of-the-art technology that has been first introduced to Egypt and the MEA region by TAQA Arabia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the New Valley governorate, and The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). Abubakr expressed his great pleasure that TAQA Arabia took a leading role in such groundbreaking national project, leveraging Egypt’s enlightened strategy towards encouraging the use of natural gas to develop urban communities, new cities and industrial zones.
