Under the Patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, EGYPTAIR hosted the 51st Annual General Assembly Meeting of the Arab Air Carriers' Organization (AACO), held in Cairo from the 5th till the 7th of November, 2018.

Yesterday witnessed the opening ceremony at the Citadel "Salah Eldin" in Cairo, attended by Capt. Sameh El-Hefny, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Ahmed Adel, Chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR Holding Company and Mr. Abdul Wahab Teffaha, AACO Secretary-General, the AACO airlines members, in addition to representatives of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the European Commission, the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), and a number of regional airline associations.

"Egypt is a leading country in the aviation industry in Africa and the Middle East; Egypt is keen on consolidating cooperation among Arab countries in the field of civil aviation and working towards taking a unified Arab position that represents the interests of the Arab airlines. The airline members witnessed a significant, development that has contributed to the economic, development in the Arab world, despite the recent crises happened in the region and affected the industry," said Capt. Sameh El- Hefny.
He added that the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority spares no effort to cooperate continuously and exchange experiences in the field of aviation laws and regulations, etc. in order to enhance aviation safety procedures and achieve the goal of promoting the Egyptian and Arab civil aviation field.

Meanwhile, Capt. Ahmed Adel, Chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR Holding Company and Chairman of the 51st General Assembly Meeting of the AACO said, "EGYPTAIR hosting of this major event stems from its leading position in the region as a global airline with an effective role in exchanging experiences and supporting the aviation industry with AACO member states at Arab, regional and international levels over 53 years, since it has joined AACO. This year, EGYPTAIR is hosting the AACO General Assembly meeting for the fifth time".
He highlighted EGYPTAIR role, under the umbrella of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, in supporting the AACO activities in the face of major challenges and promoting aviation around the world by creating effective channels among member airlines and devising new strategies to make air traveling more enjoyable and safer.
On his part, Mr. Abdul Wahab Teffaha expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for sponsoring this General Assembly, saying that it is a great honor for the AACO to be hosted for the fifth time in Egypt, the same place where AACO was held for the first time. He added that EGYPTAIR is a major hub that connects Arab countries' capitals together and connects them to major world capitals.
He pointed out that Arab airlines have become a major, added value to the consumers in the world, and a boost to economic development, that the contribution of Arab air transport to the GDP of this region is more than double the world average, and its distinctive role has become an integral part of providing job opportunities and development of various economic sectors. The AACO aspires to a world with little restrictions on market access, offered capacity and freedom of investment in airlines, and the freedom of consumers to travel and choose a suitable destination in a transparent and healthy competitive environment under clear economic rules and a sound perception of the importance of developing the infrastructure and long-term added value of this sector to economic development.

The meetings will discuss several topics including the AACO Secretary-General's report on the state of the aviation industry, complying with competition laws, preventing monopoly and agenda approval, response to natural and humanitarian disasters, as well as the opportunities and challenges faced by AACO member airlines.
