UAE, Dubai: Dubai Sports City signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai Land Department (DLD) through its regulatory arm, the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA), to announce the first UAE ‘Tolerance Cup,’ a one day football tournament to be held at the Football Academy at Dubai Sports City on Friday, 29 March 2019.

The MoU establishes a strategic partnership, not only with Dubai Sports City and DLD, but also with government entities, corporate organisations, and the community as a whole, to launch community and cultural initiatives and events in line with the ‘Year of Tolerance’ and its goals in spreading and strengthening its highest values in society.

HE Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, said: “Supporting the Tolerance Cup initiative for freehold real estate communities affirms our strategy to strengthen our communication with the society, contributes to the dissemination of sports, and reinforces sports initiatives for their importance in spreading happiness and positivity, in line with the vision and directives of our wise leadership. It also consolidates Dubai’s position as a destination for events and sports competitions, and through this cup, we saw an opportunity to support the ‘Year of Tolerance’ initiative in the UAE as part of a series of events that we intend to organise in commemoration of this occasion.”

‘The Tolerance Cup,’ which is a first of its kind in the UAE, will witness the participation of eight teams, representing the communities of real estate developers and owner associations across Dubai, who will compete in a knock-out tournament. Audiences may attend and watch the matches free of charge at the Sports Village.

HE Marwan bin Ghalita, CEO of RERA, commented: “The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation with Dubai Sports City and support its projects that seek to make sport an essential part of everyday lives. This cup helps us promote our real estate market and highlight Dubai as one of the most important destinations for freehold property investment, especially in light of the transparent legislation that guarantees the rights of all parties, enhancing the Emirate’s attractiveness among all investors inside and outside the UAE.

2019 was announced as the ‘Year of Tolerance’ to further strengthen the UAE’s role of encouraging stability and prosperity in the region, and as such, the Tolerance Cup aims to highlight these values through sport and inclusive communities.

Khalid Al Zarooni, President of Dubai Sports City, said: “Sports have the power to bring individuals, cultures, and nations together. In the UAE, there are over 200 nationalities, and we are proud to be organising an event here in Dubai Sports City to highlight the nation’s role in presenting an example of international tolerance. It’s a great honour to announce this tournament in collaboration with so many leading organisations that came together to mark the values of tolerance. We are incredibly grateful to all those involved from the private and public sectors for supporting the initiative.”

Sports Village, the active entertainment hub in the heart of Dubai Sports City, will host the one-day tournament on the natural pitches of the Football Academy which has hosted many successful international teams and sporting legends.
