Dubai: Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), an integrated free zone technology park, welcomed a delegation of journalists from international media outlets specializing in artificial intelligence. Organized in collaboration with Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), the visit followed the Ai Everything Summit (AiE), the world’s foremost summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Engineer Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President of Engineering and Smart City at DSOA, welcomed the delegates and briefed them on the state-of-the-art infrastructure and business services available to entrepreneurs and startups at DSO.  He also highlighted the benefits of setting up business in the integrated technology hub, including its cutting-edge facilities and strategic location. In addition, he updated the journalists on the latest developments on the Silicon Park project, the first integrated smart city in Dubai that sets a new global benchmark for smart technology solutions and is scheduled for handover in Q2 2019.

The delegates later visited the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec), DSOA’s wholly owned tech innovation hub that is home to more than 800 startups from 72 countries. They were also introduced to the Dubai Smart City Accelerator (DSCA), the first industry-focused accelerator program of its kind in the MENA region, that was launched in May 2017 in collaboration with six strategic partners – Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), Smart Dubai Office, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rochester Institute of Technology New York, Orange Business Services, and Visa. To date, DSCA has helped kickstart 20 successful startups focused on artificial intelligence, blockchain, logistics, and smart documents.

Engineer Al Katheeri said: “The visit underscores the important role DSOA plays in deploying artificial intelligence and other modern technologies. The authority’s efforts align with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to fast-track the adoption of artificial intelligence to support the ultimate goal of establishing Dubai as one of the safest, smartest, and happiest cities in the world.”

He added: “The delegation included representatives of Asian, European, and African media outlets, who had heard of DSOA’s pioneering work and were keen to experience its success story first-hand. The media tour will go a long way in strengthening our international recognition and enable us to showcase our latest technologies to stakeholders from around the world.”

Concluding the tour, the journalists thanked Engineer Al Katheeri and the entire DSOA team for their hospitality and the insights provided. They also praised the Authority’s efforts in providing world-class services to entrepreneurs, and a welcoming environment for its business partners, residents, and visitors.
