Dubai is getting ready to welcome the last major show jumping competition of the season as the 21st edition of the Emirates Championship gets ready to kick off this Thursday at the Emirates Equestrian Centre (EEC).
Held under the supervision of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation (UAEERF), Dubai’s three-day national show jumping competition will see numerous riders and their horses jumping heights of up to 150cm in the club’s outdoor sand arena.
The Emirates Championship 2019 will boast of 15 classes to accommodate riders and horses of all levels – Advanced riders (Division 1), Amateurs (Division 2), Young Riders (between the ages of 16 – 21), Juniors (riders between 14 – 18 years old) and Children (riders below the age of 14). There will also be two open classes for riders of any age to participate.
The start of the 21st Edition of Emirates Championship will feature five classes on Thursday – two classes of One Round not Against the Clock for Division 2 riders as well as Children; and three Table C classes for Young Riders, Juniors and Division 1 riders respectively (where faults get converted into extra seconds that are added onto the rider’s final time score).
Friday will see six competitions: two classes of One Round with Jump-Off for Children as well as Division 2 riders with the other four classes comprising of One Round not Against the Clock for Juniors, Young Riders, Division 1 and an Open Class for riders of all ages.
The last day of the Emirates Championship 2019 will consist of a Two Phase Open Class with the remaining three classes being Two Rounds not Against the Clock for Juniors and Young Riders as well as Division 1 who will close off the Championship by jumping the maximum height set - 150cm. All riders will be competing for their share of a prize purse of AED 395,000.
The competitions will be supervised by Hussam Zummit, who represents the UAEERF, with Khalil Ibrahim serving as Ground Jury President, with the assistance from other jury members. International course designer, Volker Smidth, designed this show’s course, with help from other course designers.
