The United Arab Emirates: DMPrevent, a first of its kind diabetic wound care and amputation prevention center that combines world class wound care treatment, diabetic health education as well as groundbreaking telehealth technology, announced today the appointment of Dr. Robert Frykberg DPM, MPH as its new Medical Director. His highly regarded experience will be instrumental in ensuring that DMPrevent’s wound care center in Fujairah will adhere to the highest international clinical standards.

Dr. Frykberg is a graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1976. He went on to complete his residency training at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. In addition, Dr. Frykberg served as the President of the Massachusetts Podiatric Medical Society and a Member of the Board of Registration in Podiatry.

From 1992 to 1994, he attended the Harvard University School of Public Health and graduated with a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in quantitative methods. After 21 years of private practice, Dr. Frykberg was the Clinical Dean of the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Frykberg’s research and writing interests have included all facets of lower extremity disorders, but are specifically focused on diabetic foot ulcers, infections, Charcot foot, and wound care. He is the author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has also been the editor of two textbooks: The High-Risk Foot in Diabetes Mellitus (1991) and the Diabetic Charcot Foot (2010).

His expertise in the diabetic foot has translated into hundreds of speaking invitations internationally with numerous lecture engagements in China, India, Russia, South America, the UK, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Italy, and across Europe.

Dr. Howard Umansky, DPM, FAPWH, CWS, Founder and Executive Director of DMPrevent said, “We are honored to welcome Dr. Robert Frykberg DPM, MPH to the DMPrevent family. His appointment comes at an exciting time for DMPrevent as we continue to work with our partners in the UAE to address the local diabetes epidemic.  The lack of wound care specialists combined with the expected rise in the prevalence of diabetes has made the need for DMPrevent’s services critical in this region. Dr. Frykberg is an internationally recognized pioneer in podiatric medicine, and we look forward to working with him to reduce the number of amputations and change the trajectory of diabetes in the UAE.”

Robert Frykberg DPM, MPH, Medical Director of DMPrevent, also noted, “A diabetic ulcer or wound is a serious condition that without proper treatment can lead to amputation. Our mission at DMPrevent is to meet the full spectrum of patient needs through medical interventions related to the early detection, treatment and monitoring of the complications of diabetes. We are excited to be launching in the Emirate of Fujairah to address the urgent needs of patients impacted by diabetes, while also developing scalable clinical protocols.”

DMPrevent will soon be opening the region’s only comprehensive wound care and amputation prevention center with state-of-the-art treatment options in the clinic and remote monitoring capability from Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. Using remote monitoring, patients can use their smartphones to alert doctors of changes in skin lesions or blood glucose and receive feedback from trained medical personnel.
