Manama, Bahrain – The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF), the training and development provider in the region, has announced the launch of its new training programme developed to prepare students for the Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate exam, offered by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

GARP’s SCR Certificate aims to provide knowledge and skills that will empower candidates to recognise climate driven threats, lead climate risk initiatives, and drive sustainability objectives within their organisation.

The programme also provides participants with an understanding of the legal frameworks and reporting requirements related to sustainability risks and climate change. With an increasing focus on sustainability and climate change risks in the financial industry, this programme is considered a crucial step in building the expertise and capacity needed to deal with these issues.

On this occasion, Ms. Zeeba Askar, Head of Banking & Finance Centre at the BIBF stated, “The SCR® exam preparation programme will cover a number of topics such as climate change, sustainable finance, and integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into risk management.” She also added, “Designed for risk professionals, investment managers and others in the financial industry who wish to expand their knowledge and expertise in the areas of sustainability and climate change risks, the programme includes case studies, interactive discussions, and practical exercises that align with GARP’s SCR exam curriculum.

Michael Sell, GARP’s Global Head of Business Development said, “Growing interest in the SCR Certificate around the globe reflects the importance of building capacity on the risks and opportunities associated with sustainability and climate change at an individual and institutional level. We are happy to add BIBF to the network of SCR Exam Preparation Providers who support candidates in their journey to completing the SCR Certificate.”

The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit membership organization focused on elevating the practice of risk management. GARP offers the globally recognised Financial Risk Manager (FRM®), the Sustainability and Climate Risk Certificate (SCR®), and ongoing educational opportunities through Continuing Professional Development.
