• Al-Turki: NBK is always leading the way in sponsoring all environmental conservation initiatives and campaigns
  • Our sponsorship of the Kuwait Dive Team comes in line with the bank’s sustainability strategy

Underscoring its support of all initiatives promoting sustainability and environmental conservation, National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) announced renewing its sponsorship of the Kuwait Dive Team (KDT) for the second year in a row.

Through this sponsorship, NBK aims to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the marine environment and coral reefs, and the hazards of dumping harmful waste in the sea.

From its side, KDT will rehabilitate and protect the marine environment and encourage volunteering to serve the marine environment by preparing national cadres specialized in marine operations and maintenance of mooring buoys around coral reefs.

KDT’s contributions consist of 4 programs: “Installation and maintenance of mooring buoys, lifting waste and abandoned fishing nets stuck to coral reefs, removal of sunken boats, yachts and vessels, and cruises in the Kuwait Sea.”

During the past year, the team made great efforts in marine conservation, most notably lifting 22 tons of waste in 14 operations, and 6 tons of abandoned fishing nets in 16 operations across different areas of the Kuwaiti coasts and bays.

In addition, NBK and KDT agreed on launching a number of cruises to cover the team’s role in protecting and cleaning the environment at various locations. This includes educational and warning messages delivered by the team members to increase public awareness on the damages caused by the waste to the marine environment. These messages will also be posted on the social media pages of both NBK and the Kuwait Dive Team.

On this occasion, Talal Al-Turki, Senior Manager, Public Relations at National Bank of Kuwait said: “NBK is always leading the way in sponsoring all environmental conservation initiatives and campaigns, as part of the endeavors to promote sustainability as a fundamental part of all the bank’s activities across different sectors.”

“NBK’s sponsorship of KDT’s initiatives and activities comes in line with its corporate sustainability strategy and firm commitment towards protecting the environment, which is reflected in this type of partnerships with local foundations like the Kuwait Dive Team,” he added.

Al-Turki noted that NBK organizes awareness campaigns on its social media platforms to raise awareness on the importance of the environment and environmental conservation, especially amidst the growing interest in environmental and climate change issues, locally and globally.

NBK always seeks to reinforce its leading position as the most committed financial institution in delivering on its social responsibilities and promoting sustainability. On the other side, since founded, Kuwait Dive Team, delivered valuable contributions in the protection and rehabilitation of the marine life in Kuwait through a range of activities, including documenting and protecting coral reefs, cleaning beaches, establishing fish colonies, as well as removal of sunken ships and boats.
