Dubai-UAE - The Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS), a regional leader in banking and finance education and training, organised a week-long innovation event for students at its Dubai campus. Over 700 students from various academic disciplines joined the event, which was held between February 17 and 24, 2023.

The event focused on design thinking-based workshops and hands-on prototyping activities. It aimed to equip students with the skills needed to develop creative solutions to problems faced in the banking and finance sector.

Through the workshops, students were introduced to the concept of design-thinking and its application. The students were given the opportunity to engage in an immersive activity that explored Doblin's 10 types of innovation model, a framework for identifying and developing new business opportunities.

Dr Suyash Bhatt, a faculty member at EIBFS, conducted the workshops and guided students through the process of ideation, creation, and prototyping aspects. The event also included a brief activity from the Stanford Design School and a presentation on the Aber Project, a real-world example of design thinking in the financial sector.

“We are thrilled to see the level of enthusiasm and creativity displayed by our students during this innovation event,” said Noura Alblooshi, Acting General Manager of EIBFS. “We believe that by fostering a culture of innovation and encouraging students to think outside the box, we can develop the next generation of leaders in banking and finance.”

EIBFS aims to organising similar events in the future to continue supporting student creativity and problem-solving in the financial sector.

It is worth mentioning that over 13,600 UAE nationals registered for the EIBFS programmes between January and December 2022 and completed their training. This constituted 40% of the total number of participants and comprised 85% female and 15% male UAE Nationals.

With a total of 166 training programmes that were provided by EIBFS during 2022, including top-tier courses such as the Banking Annual Training Programme, Insurance Annual Training Programme, learning pathways, privately owned programmes, professional specialised certifications, and seven Emiratisation courses.
