Medina, Saudi Arabia - Careem, the region's leading multi-service platform, partners with ALMQR Development Company, the investment arm of Medina Municipality, to introduce the first public network of electric bicycles and scooters in Medina.
The signing ceremony took place at the MedEx exhibition in Medina, in the presence of HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud, Governor of Medina province, H.E Tawfig Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, H.E Eng. Fahad Bin Mohammed Albelaihshi, Secretary of Medina Province, and Majid Al-Shalhoub, the CEO of ALMQR Development Company. Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder of Careem, and Bassel Alnahlaoui, Managing Director of Mobility at Careem, attended the event.
Careem BIKE is expected to grow its network to 165 dock stations in several phases with 60 stations launched in the first year.
The network of bikes and scooters links to other transport modes including Medina Train Station and bus station network, enabling residents and tourists in Medina to travel around with ease.

Careem BIKE was launched with an ambition to help make cities more sustainable and bicycle-friendly so that people can enjoy an active lifestyle in more environmentally-friendly cities. Through a 15-year partnership with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, Careem BIKE has introduced 1,750 e-bikes and 175 stations across Dubai with plans to expand to 3,500 bikes and 350 stations.
Careem launched in Saudi Arabia in 2013, commencing operations in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Dhahran, and Khobar before expanding to reach 29 cities across the Kingdom. Careem has broadened the services it offers to customers in Saudi Arabia beyond ride-hailing, to also provide food delivery, city-to-city transportation, booking a Covid-19 vaccine, and PCR testing. To date, Careem Captains have completed over 250 million trips. In 2021, earnings for Captains in Saudi Arabia totaled over SAR 430 million ($115 million).
