AJMAN: With a view to enhancing the employability skills of its students and offering them a range of real-world, industry-aligned courses and certifications, Ajman University (AU) has tied-up with Coursera, a global online learning platform.

The partnership between the two organizations will provide AU students access to advanced courses and job-relevant credentials through Career Academy from Coursera, including Professional Certificates from industry leaders.

“The global business and societal landscape are transforming at a breathtaking pace fueled by the rise of new technologies and trends like AI, ML, and Big Data. This necessitates that we impart new skills to students that are in tune with the industry’s demands and realign existing skills, over and above the traditional curriculums,” said Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University.

“This partnership with Coursera will provide AU students access to a host of world-class learning resources that in addition to their regular course curriculums at AU, will help them add meaningful in-demand skills to their portfolio and target the most sought-after, hi-tech jobs across various industry verticals,” said Dr. Khaled Assaleh, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Coursera recently conducted a survey of thousands of employers and students. Results of that survey showed that 89% of surveyed students agree or strongly agree that earning an entry-level professional certificate will help them stand out to employers and secure jobs when they graduate, while employers are on average 76% more likely to hire a candidate who has earned one.

“Data from our latest survey shows high demand for industry microcredentials from students and employers,” said Kais Zribi, General Manager - Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey at Coursera. “Through our partnership with Ajman University, students will be able to access thousands of high-quality online courses and microcredentials, equipping them with the necessary digital skills to secure careers in the digital economy.”
