Cinépolis Cinemas, the first movie exhibitor in Latin America and the third largest globally, opened two new cinemas in Al Jamea Plaza, Jeddah, and in Lulu Mall, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, by mid-December 2020. The expansion of Cinépolis into the Saudi market marks a huge milestone that truly expresses the Kingdom's 2030 Vision aiming to diversify the economy and spread culture and entertainment.
To facilitate further regional expansion in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM) has issued the license for cinema operation to Cinépolis. Through a fruitful partnership with Al Hokair group and with its valued regional partner, Al Tayer Group, $300 million is set to be invested in the field over five years, leading to great economic development for the country.
Alejandro Aguilera, CEO of Cinépolis Gulf, considers the launch of Cinépolis Cinemas in Saudi Arabia a step that reflects the new entertainment strategy in the Kingdom. The group plans to launch 200 new screens by 2023, in addition to recruiting more Saudi nationals in the entertainment sector.
He added, "Cinépolis is proud to be contributing to the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision by providing moviegoers with unrivaled experiences as Saudi Arabia increases its culture and entertainment offering.
