- Participants will transform data to create innovative software solutions for a more sustainable food industry
- Participants will have the chance to win prize money by taking part in the virtual event
Dubai, UAE: Middlesex University Dubai is calling upon data enthusiasts to create innovative data insights for sustainability and food safety by taking part in a virtual hackathon.
Some of the most innovative minds will come together for the Middlesex Insights Lab Analytics for Food Safety Hackathon which will see participants compete in extracting solutions from data; transforming the information into predictive models that will be able to create lasting solutions for the food safety industry.
The Hackathon – data analysis sessions where ideas are brainstormed and built - is being held in collaboration with RUBICS Smart Solutions, CIHx, and Beinex. Using a dataset shared by RUBICS Smart Solutions on food safety which includes various aspects such as food temperature, fridge status, alert levels, location, and several other attributes; participants will be asked to derive insights that could link to sustainability and add business value.
The objective is open-ended; the only requirement is to use Analytics, Machine Learning, or Visualisations to come up with sustainable solutions.
The Hackathon is an open event for all those interested in discovering solutions which will support a more sustainable future. Whether a beginner or seasoned champion in analytics, participants simply need to demonstrate how they can best derive insights from the data.
Middlesex University Dubai is adding an extra incentive; with the winner to be awarded Dh1,500 prize money and the runner-up to be awarded Dh1,000. All participants will receive a digital certificate of participation by RUBICS and Insights Lab. The shortlisted participants will also stand a chance of winning a virtual internship with RUBICS to work on sustainability and food safety projects.
Dr Krishnadas Nanath, Associate Professor and founder of the Middlesex University Dubai Insights Lab, said: “Data has become one of the most important features of the digital era and one of the most important highlights in the transformation towards a digital/knowledge economy - and in a sustainable future for all. From reducing downtime to minimising waste, extracting solutions from data can unlock almost limitless opportunities while creating a more sustainable world.
“The hackathon is now an emerging vehicle for innovation as tech giants and organisations explore methods for change in a world which needs creative solutions to sustainable issues.
“We encourage anyone with an inquisitive mind and passion for innovation to take part in our Hackathon and help create enterprising answers that will address the immediate need for viable solutions to the food safety sector.”
Registrations for the Hackathon will close on June 4, with shortlists to be announced later that month.
