Sharjah: Saudi Arabia’s youngest international movie star, eighteen-year-old Abdullah Al Ali, has engaged with his UAE fans who flocked the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF) 2019, on Monday evening. One of the film festival’s young celebrity guests this year, Ali spoke in detail about his personal and professional journey playing the leading role in the Kingdom’s first commercial film.

Talking about the challenges he faced as a 16-year-old while dabbling between studies and acting in a major feature film, he said: “I was shooting for 10 – 14 hours a day. So, when my fellow actors took a lunch break, I had to go study geometry with my tutor. All thanks to my parents who have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams and at the same time, instilled the importance of gaining an education to become a successful global citizen.”

Ali also described how fortunate he felt to make his entry into the world of cinema playing the role of a national figure, the late king Faisal bin Abdulaziz’s days serving his nation as a young man. He highlighted the importance of documenting his legacy in a feature film and introducing it to young people in the region and around the world. Biopics, he said, are an effective way of educating younger generations about important historical events and figures.
