With over 5,200 megaprojects worth billions of riyals underway, construction in Saudi Arabia is an essential tool to build the future. These megaprojects account for approximately 35 per cent of the total value of active projects across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Non-oil revenues are increasing in Saudi Arabia and the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) sector, including the transportation industry, remains a major platform for potential investment.
“The transportation industry, particularly in the Middle East, has always shown a strong desire to adopt the latest technology as part of a shared vision to design and deliver world class infrastructure. It includes rail but also the connections to roads, airports, and sea ports,” said Steve Cockerel, industry marketing director of rail and road, Bentley Systems.
Construction stakeholders have cited the need for innovative technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) to deliver the ambitious projects within their timelines. Although the usage of BIM is at its nascent stage in Saudi, there is a definite need to develop a methodology to implement BIM to solve the current AEC industry issues.
The BIM Forum 2020 is an effort to motivate all the stakeholders and the imaginative minds of the kingdom to adopt and implement BIM in their projects and reap the benefits. The Forum will take place in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on 1-2 April.
With Vision 2030 construction projects like Neom, the Red Sea Project, Qiddiya entertainment city and the Al-Ula project taking shape in Saudi Arabia, the BIM Forum 2020 will discuss the scope of innovative design and construction technologies in these megaprojects.
The Forum on 1-2 April will feature a combination of presentations, case studies and panel discussions, through which industry experts will address subjects such as optimising design coordination, BIM implementation challenges in Saudi Arabia, integrated project delivery, BIM and collaborative working and practices, BIM and robotics, BIM and health and safety and defining the digital twin.
Advisory panellists include Ahmed Alboufa, Founder, UAE BIM Association; Nicky Dobreanu, Cost Consultant, Saudconsult; Prof. Waleed Nasser, Head of BIM, Al Faisal
University. The Forum includes a stellar line-up of confirmed speakers from Ministry of Commerce & Investment, Saudi Arabia, Saudconsult, Gulf House Engineering, Al Faisal University, JLL, Tatweer Building Company and many more.
The expert speakers will discuss Digital Twinning in smart technology, robotics, and BIM to reduce construction costs in the AEC industry. These discussions will further offer attendees an avenue to explore several new directions for digitised construction in the country.
Saudi Arabia is on a progressive path to deliver state-of-the-art projects. In the past, the kingdom has achieved numerous milestones, positioning the oil-rich nation as a global hub for digitised technology.
This Forum will offer a platform to critical market players for them to gain relevant information and network with several other global BIM experts. It will bring to the table the latest trends in the industry with interactive workshops and panel discussions.
