Sharjah: The Supreme Organising Committee (SOC) of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), signed 4 strategic partnerships which include Tilal Properties, Bee'ah, Air Arabia, and Fast Building Contracting LLC, to support and sponsor the fifth edition of AWST which will take place from February 2-12, 2020.
The signing ceremony which was held in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Head of the SOC of AWST, was a culmination of the efforts undertaken by various entities in Sharjah to empower women in sports locally.
As per the partnership agreements, Tilal Properties will be the gold sponsor, while Bee’ah and Air Arabia are silver sponsors and Fast Building Contracting LLC the bronze sponsor of the fifth edition of AWST.
The signing ceremony was attended by HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Deputy Head of the SOC of AWST, Head of the Executive Committee and Director General of the Sharjah Women Sports Foundation (SWS); HE Khalifa Alshaibani, Director General of Tilal Properties; HE Abdelrahman Bin Taliah, Head of Corporate Affairs and Investor Relations, Air Arabia; Sultan Al Sabri, Head of Human Resources at Bee'ah; HE Eng. Fathi Jabr Afaneh, General Manager of Fast Contracting Company; Maitha bin Dhawi, Manager of AWST; and a host of officials.
Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi stressed that the agreements reflected the advanced level of partnerships in the emirate. He noted that the combined efforts of various entities in the Sharjah had led to the development of the sporting environment in the emirate.
He said: “We believe that sport is one of the pillars on which societies develop and advance due to the immense positive impact it has on an individual’s health. AWST has achieved many milestones in advancing women’s sports. We are looking forward to witness an amazing event that translates the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, to support women’s sports in order to help sportswomen realise their dreams and ambitions.”
For his part, HE Khalifa Alshaibani said: “We are proud to sponsor AWST which is one of the most important sporting events, locally and regionally. We live in a country that supports women in all fields, including sports. We believe that these sporting events provide a platform for women to develop their skills and achieve their aspirations and dreams.
Sultan Al Sabri commented: “AWST raises awareness about sports and adopting it as a lifestyle in order to build a healthy society. At Bee’ah, we work on raising awareness about health, environment and sports, which we consider an important factor in the wellbeing of individuals,
He added: "Such tournaments contribute to the spread of the sports culture, and awareness of the importance of adopting a lifestyle that improves the physical and mental health of women and the whole society. Bee’ah takes part in many activities in Sharjah as part of its corporate social responsibility. Sponsoring AWST reflects our commitment to society. We hope this edition meets the aspirations of participating clubs and athletes.”
For his part, Abdelrahman Bin Taliah, said: “We are proud to be partners in the upcoming edition of AWST that reflects Sharjah’s role as an incubator for the most important sports and cultural activities and events. This partnership reflects our corporate social responsibility to support and advance women’s sports, in line with the emirate’s objectives.”
Eng. Fathi Jabr Afane, said: “Our partnership with AWST is a continuation of our efforts over the past few years to advance women’s sports. Our aim is to support the tournament in achieving its vision of helping sportswomen to realise their goals and dreams.”
The Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) was launched in 2012 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation. The pan-Arab tournament is held biennially.

About the Arab Women Sports Tournament
Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women Sports (SWS), the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), is organised by the Sharjah Women Sports (SWS) in partnership with the UAE Sports Council, Sharjah Sports Council and the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees.
Launched in 2012, the bi-yearly olympics-themed women sports tournament, hosts a number of women's sports clubs from more than 15 Arab nations to compete across 9 sports: Karate, Basketball, Volleyball, Fencing, Show Jumping, Shooting, Archery, Athletics and Table Tennis.
In 2018, AWST hosted 67 women sports clubs from 16 Arab nations who competed across 9 games, and received media coverage from more than 380 outlets across the Arab region.
The fifth edition of the tournament, which is scheduled to kick-start on February 2 - 12, 2020, will play a major role in building on the 5-year success of the AWST brand, and support the growth and development of the regional sports industry and the women sports initiatives.
