DUBAI, UAE: With diabetes affecting more than one in five people living in the UAE, every effort should be made to curb unhealthy lifestyle prevalent among the majority of the residents in the country, a Dubai-based health expert said on World Diabetes Day.
“Balancing good health with a healthy work ambience is imperative in this competitive arena. Let us strive to overcome unhealthy lifestyle which is accompanied with loads of health threats, including diabetes,” said Avivo Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Atul. He was referring to the group’s unique Employee Health Engagement Programme, which was launched on World Diabetes Day.
The newly designed programme aims to cover an array of activities, including Spread the Blue Obesity Challenge.
“Numerous corporate houses have already joined hands with Avivo Group to fight diabetes through Employee Health Engagement Programmes. Avivo Employees and their patients are joining hands to create awareness on World Diabetes Day by wearing blue silicone wrist bands,” said Dr Atul.
“Hectic schedule at the workplace makes employees’ lifestyle quite sedentary. Easy access to unhealthy food and heavy reliance on helpers or maids for housework further add to their health woes,” he said. “All this lead to diabetes. Sadly, fewer than one in four patients properly manage their health condition, resulting in more deaths each year due to the sugar-related disease.”
In this background, Avivo has specially designed a diabetes package for the community at AED 149, which is at around 80 per cent discount. The offer can be availed at Primacare, Dubai, and Reem Diagnostic and Medical Centre, Reem Al Nahda, Reem Specialty and Medical Centre, Sharjah until November 30, 2019, the Dubai-based company said in a statement.
Avivo Group – one of the fastest-growing healthcare service providers in the GCC with presence in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Kuwait; winner of Middle East Best Brands Awards 2019 and UAE Super Brand winner – is also offering the benefits of the unique Employee Health Engagement Programme to its staff and their family members.
“We want to open a floodgate of healthy connect with our employees and their family members as well and create working at Avivo Group a delight. Healthy Employees are the biggest asset to any organization and we want to promote our employees’ health as our Core Value. We are gifting Health Check-up Vouchers to employees and their family members,” announced Dr Atul.
According to an estimate of the World Health Organisation, diabetes has remained the seventh-leading cause of death across the world, but it is an especially severe problem in the Middle East and the UAE.
The number of people with diabetes in the Middle East, according to the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, is set to double within the next 30 years.
Diabetes is a condition that occurs when an individual’s blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is the main source of energy and comes from the food a person eats. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy.
Dr. Atul joined AVIVO Group as a Chief Executive Officer. He is a well-accomplished Healthcare Professional with over 25 years of diverse experience across healthcare organisations in India, UAE, Oman and KSA. In his vast career, he has been very successful in managing largescale medical facilities, start-up healthcare operations, restructuring of business, financial planning of healthcare ventures, corporate & clinical governance and Healthcare quality management.
