Alosra supermarket has increased its annual investment towards its Ramadan Food Hampers drive, in order to help feed over 3,000 families in need at an especially challenging time as Ramadan takes place during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the supermarket’s commitment to contribute to the communities in which it operates, Alosra has extended its support through one of its most impactful charitable initiatives, its Ramadan Food Hampers drive. Every year, the supermarket distributes food staples that are essential to wellbeing during the holy month to those that need them most. This year, Alosra has substantially increased the amount of its annual investment towards the Ramadan Food Hampers drive in response to the current circumstances the community is facing with the spread of COVID-19. With support needed more than ever during these challenging times, and vulnerable segments of populations facing even greater risk, Alosra has broadened its outreach even further this year, and will help feed over 3,000 disadvantaged families who have been additionally impacted by the spread of COVID-19.
The Alosra supermarket team worked together with local organisations and charities to distribute the hampers, which included non-perishable items such as rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar, salt, pasta and many more crucial staples. The COVID-19 aid food hampers were distributed through select charities and organisations including the Rotary Club, the Good Word Society, Bahrain Women Association, Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled, the Riffa Women Cultural Society and several other notable partners in order to reach those who are most in need.
“This year, our hampers combine both Ramadan, and basic essential commodities, to be distributed to families in need during these unpredictable times,” said Alosra’s Food Retailing and Distribution General Manager, Jaffar Al Asfoor. “Due to the critical conditions caused by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, disadvantaged families are in a more vulnerable state than ever before. We are proud to have been able to further extend our reach with the initiative this year, in order to maximise positive impact on livelihoods of local disadvantaged families in these challenging times. I would also like to extend our appreciation to all the local charities and organisations that supported us in identifying the relevant families and the distribution of the hampers.”
