Leading Middle East oilfield services provider, AlMansoori Specialized Engineering has announced a comprehensive over AED 18 million upgrade to its managed pressure drilling (MPD) services offering.
The company along with its affiliated companies; Reform Energy Services, Air Drilling Associates and Kelda Drilling Controls, has worked intensively to introduce the "next generation automated MPD Package" and was demonstrated at a special event held at the AlMansoori Production Services facility in Abu Dhabi, for the benefit of senior oil industry representatives, oilfield professionals and invited media, yesterday.
The new model-based control system, which is being made available in the region for the first time by AlMansoori and its affiliates, features unique capabilities that can control gas surges and two-phase flows in an automated pressure control mode. The system is designed to automatically maintain the annulus surface back pressure during drilling operations and maintain the downhole drilling window.
To verify and demonstrate how gas influxes and two-phase flow can be handled in automated pressure control mode, a Flow-Loop test system has been assembled in Al Mansoori's facilities in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The testing demonstrated how the system can seamlessly handle rapidly changing pressure points and accommodate sudden surges in pressure. The adaptive system also enables the constant overview of pressure control, and traps pressure during connections without the need for back pressure pumps or flow diverters.

Managed pressure drilling packages enable oil production and drilling platforms to effectively mitigate drilling hazards, such as differential sticking, fluid loss, kicks, lost circulation and nuisance gas zones.
The use of MPD also optimizes the rate of penetration (ROP) and prolongs bit life, cutting the number of trips necessary and reducing non-productive time while enhancing drilling efficiency. The system also minimizes health, safety and environmental risks during drilling operations and enables drilling in challenging locations.
Founded in 1977 in Abu Dhabi, AlMansoori Specialized Engineering has grown into the undisputed leading oilfield services provider in the Middle East region. Today the company has operations in as many as 25 different countries worldwide and employs more than 2,800 people.
The company recently deployed the first of two planned modern production testing and stimulation vessels in the Arabian Gulf as a major new service.
