· 5,000 Days without LTA Milestone due to highest standards of health and safety at Plant
Muscat - In a milestone achievement for Al Kamil Power Company (AKPC), the Company recently announced that their Power Plant located in the Sharqiyah Governorate has successfully completed over 5,000 Loss Time Accident (LTA) free days. The impressive milestone is a continuation of the excellent worker health and safety standards applied by AKPC and the Plant operator, Al Kamil Construction & Services (AKCS), standards which are applied to the entire spectrum of activities encompassing operations and ongoing maintenance of the plant.
Manuel Colcombet, Chairman of Al Kamil Power Company noted, “Safety in every aspect of operations is the top priority of the Company. AKPC is actively involved in the safety protocols with its operator AKCS, and participates regularly in both site safety tours and safety committee meetings. A total record of 5,000 days of continuous operation without a single loss time Accident makes this a significant milestone for both the plant crew and our clients. I would like to congratulate everyone who have made this milestone possible.”

Abdullah Al Sawafi, Client Contracts & Interface Manager of Oman Power and Water Procurement Co. (OPWP) added, “We are very proud of this big safety achievement by Al Kamil Power Company. It shows the leadership of the Board and Management in embedding the HSE culture across all aspects of plant operations. It demonstrates the collaboration between the Board, Management and all the workers in having the HSE culture across all aspects. We celebrate this success for the whole sector and wish AKPC all the best in achieving a further improved HSE performance. Health and safety are of paramount priority in the power sector and statistics have shown that Al Kamil Power Station demonstrates a consistent record of excellence in this regard.”
Speaking on behalf of the Authority for Electricity Regulation, Eng. Ibrahim Al Harthi, Director of Technical Regulation noted, “From the Authority’s perspective, we have a broader view on what is good performance. This achievement by Al Kamil Power Company shows what is possible to be achieved by all. When we recognize this important milestone, we know how hard it has been to achieve it. I applaud the entire team who have contributed to this fine achievement.”
Al Kamil Power Company owns and operates a 280-megawatt electricity generating station at Al Kamil in the Sharqiya Governorate, which has three generating units, with each unit incorporating a gas turbine and an electric generator. Since commissioning, the plant has delivered 15.5 Million MWH to the national electricity grid. The Company operates within an agreed PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) with the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company which has recently been extended until December 2021.
