2nd Edition kicks off with increased international and domestic participants

Championship is part of the UAEJJF World Ranking and Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Qualifying Series

Championship comes as the second event after the success of the first round of JJPC

Ajman Youth Center has completed 80% of its arrangements to host the event

Abu Dhabi, UAE - Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, the Ajman International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2017 will take place on 8 and 9 September at the Ajman Youth Centre.

The two-day event is part of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation Agenda for the 2017-2018 Sports Season and its World Ranking and Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Qualifying Series, and is open to all national and international Jiu-Jitsu teams, irrespective of the athletes’ level of proficiency, age and playing status.

The championship reinforces the UAE’s commitment to organizing and hosting the world’s best Jiu-Jitsu championships and is a testament to how deep-rooted the sport has become in the country.

This new edition of the  championship further highlights Ajman’s growing profile as an emerging hub for world class Jiu-Jitsu, hosting and showcasing some of the most skilled Jiu-Jitsu athletes, across all age groups. 

The weekend’s championship will for the first time witness an increased participation from several clubs including Al Jazeera Club, Al Ain Club, Al Wahda Club, Ajman Club and Emirates Club. All competitors participating, from White to Black Belt athletes, are currently affiliated to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for the 2017- 2018 season.

“We aim to provide a competitive environment and achieve sporting excellence at both a domestic and international level. This championship is an ideal event for athletes aspiring for professionalism and official ranking,” he added. 

The Ajman International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2017 is being proudly supported by Abu Dhabi Media, as part of their strategic partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation to increase local and international interest in the sport. Towards this, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel network will provide comprehensive coverage of this event and all foundation-organized events, ensuring local and regional fans are up-to-date on all the latest developments. This will include live coverage of the two day event on ADTV 2 from 10.30 am on Friday, 8 September which will be inaugurated with a live studio discussion with some of the key stakeholders of the event.

The sport was given the status of the UAE’s national sport by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the inspirational leader and supporter of the sport, as it was first introduced to the UAE in the late 1990s by H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, who came to be known by athletes as the “father of UAE Jiu-Jitsu”.

The UAEJJF will also cover the event live on its social media platforms(UAEJJF): Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and will also upload it on its YouTube channel to provide the audience a chance to view the full coverage.
