DEWA takes part in the event as a strategic partner

Dubai, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports, visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) stand AccessAbilities Expo 2017, accompanied by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA; HE Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of Dubai Health Authority; Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai; HE Mohammed Ahli, Director General of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; HE Khalifa Bin Darrai, CEO of Dubai Cooperation for Ambulance Services; H.E. Sami Al Qamzi, Director General, Dubai Economic Department; Ahmed Abdul Karim Julfar, Director General of the Dubai Community Development Authority; and a number of senior officials from DEWA and other government entities. DEWA takes part in the event as a strategic partner as part of its efforts to empower people of determination, and get them involved in the UAE’s and Dubai’s efforts to enhance sustainable development.

DEWA’s stand highlights its most prominent services designed to empower people of determination, and create a more inclusive society. This comes within DEWA’s integrated organisational framework for corporate social responsibility (CSR), which focuses on community happiness, focused on people of determination, within DEWA and externally. DEWA displays at its stand its guidelines to rationalise water and electricity consumption and its customer guide in Braille language to enable the people of determination to be updated on the bests practices of sustainable lifestyle. DEWA also highlights Rammas service, which acts as a virtual employee, making use of artificial intelligence technology.

As part of DEWA’s efforts to achieve the objectives of the national policy to empower people of determination, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families; and in support of ‘My Community... A City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to turn Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination by 2020, we are happy to participate in AccessAbilities Expo 2017, through our strategic partnership, and our stand that displays our latest technology solutions, smart services, initiatives and programmes, which were launched to support people of determination, within DEWA and externally. This is in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to achieve people’s happiness, and empower people of determination and their families, by creating policies and services that provide them with a high quality of life. We are confident that the exhibition will open new horizons for public and private organisations, to cooperate with each other to support people of determination in the UAE, and create a brighter future for them. The exhibition achieved great success in its first session last year, in terms of the participating international entities, centres of people of determination, and visitors from inside and outside the UAE,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer stressed that DEWA derives its vision from the leadership of the UAE Government, which places the happiness of stakeholders at the top of its strategic priorities. DEWA’s role is not only to provide electricity and water services of the highest quality, efficiency and reliability, but also to serve as a socially-responsible government organisation. This supports the directives of our wise leadership, and the Dubai Plan 2021, to make Dubai a tolerant and inclusive society, which embraces civic values.

“We have developed clear policies and procedures in the field of customer service for people of determination. We have launched several initiatives to support them, including the Ash’ir initiative, which allows people with disabilities to use sign language to communicate with DEWA call centre staff. We are the first government organisation in the UAE, to launch this service. We have also made changes to our website and smart application, to suit the needs of people of determination, as they are an integral part of our society,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer DEWA’s Absher initiative, which includes a dedicated team of specialists and qualified staff in human resources, in addition to a hotline, to meet the needs of people of determination. In addition, DEWA launched the ‘Omniyati initiative,’ in order to grant the wishes of DEWA’s people of determination, whose conditions may have prevented them from achieving their wishes. DEWA’s Sanad card provides several services to people of determination. The Sanad card offers benefits, such as wheelchair services and the Maraheb service, among others.

DEWA recently received the MVO 8000 certification in social responsibility, to become the first government organisation in Dubai to receive this global recognition. It has also reached advanced levels in implementing the guidelines of ISO 26000 in social responsibility.
