Manama, AGU: The College of Graduate Studies (CGS) in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently organised the preparation and counselling day for the new Master's and PhD students in the College from GCC States for the year 2020-2021.
The meeting with the students was attended by CGS Dean Dr Dr Soud Al Mahamid, CGS Deputy Dean for Educational Studies Dr Alaaeldin Ayoub, CGS Deputy Dean for Technical Studies Dr Maha Al Sabbagh and a number of faculty members.
During the virtual meeting, Dr Al Mahamid explained the secret of the success and distinction of the academic majors offered by AGU, detailing the nature of the academic programmes and the rights and duties of graduate students, indicating how they can achieve their goals in order to obtain the academic degree they are seeking.
Explaining more, Dr Al Mahamid briefed the students about the educational services offered by the College to students to all educational and technical majors. He encouraged the students during his speech to spare no effort in their educational journey, in order to leave an influential impact that serves GCC countries, especially in light of studying under exceptional circumstances that require determination, diligence and perseverance to overcome the difficulties and challenges of distance learning.
For his part, Students Affairs Dean Dr Abdulrahman Yousif welcomed the new students and assured them that AGU has been established 40 years ago with a futuristic vision to unite all GCC citizens under one roof and enhance the joint GCC identity.
Also speaking during the meeting was Admission and Registration Head Dr Abdulhameed Marhoon, who clarified the requirements of passing the academic programmes of CGS and outlined the academic plans of each programme. Dr Marhoon also briefed the new students about the academic rules, regulations, laws, and norms, providing answers to all inquiries received regarding the registration and services provided by the Deanship, the regulations on scientific affairs and the academic evaluation.
In the same context, Social Supervisor at the Students Affairs Deanship Ms. Aisha Al Subai'ee presented the details of the student behaviour bylaws, and the services provided by the Deanship, including guidance, direction, housing and other services, especially in light of the current extraordinary health conditions.
First Media Specialist Ms. Fatima Al Hajari explained in a presentation the vision, mission and strategy of the University aimed at addressing development issues in GCC countries through diligence in offering innovative academic programmes in various disciplines, and graduating creative cadres capable of engaging in the GCC labour market with high skills, in addition to striving to be a model research university that incubates innovation and contributes to achieving sustainable development In GCC countries.
By the end of the meeting, AGU Library Acting Director Ms. Athra’a Al Alawi addressed the attendees on the services provided by the University's library, information resources and electronic research database. She also explained how can a graduate student benefit from references, scientific periodicals, original scientific research, scientific articles, reports, book abstracts, scientific papers, and Master's and PhD dissertation bases in various electronic platforms for the purposes of scientific research.
