On 14 March 2023, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, the Thai Ambassador to Kenya met with Ambassador Nancy Karigithu, Kenya's Special Envoy for Maritime and Blue Economy Affairs and candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The Thai Ambassador congratulated Ambassador Karigithu on being a Kenya's candidate for the post of Secretary-General of IMO and highlighted that Thailand attached high importance to the international maritime affairs. She further underscored Thailand and Kenya's close relations on the multilateral fronts at the key international fora, including the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). Meanwhile Ambassador Karigithu expressed her readiness to bring her experiences on maritime affairs for the advancement of IMO if she was elected the Secretary-General of IMO.
