A new report from Arab Advisors Group analyzed the revenues, earnings before tax, net profit, and Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) expenditure of 60 companies which are listed on Amman Stock Exchange primary market for the period between 2016 and 2019.
Arab Advisors Group released a new report: "CSR expenditure by Jordan’s publicly traded companies between 2016 and 2019” which analyzed the Corporate Social Responsibility expenditure of 60 Jordanian companies listed on the primary market of the Amman Stock Exchange (“ASE”). The report, which was released in August 2020, answers the following questions:
- How much did ASE’s primary market companies spend on CSR activities for the period between 2016 and 2019?
- Who were the leading companies in terms of CSR expenditure?
- How much did each sector spend on CSR activities between 2016 and 2019?
- What percentages of net profit and earnings before tax did companies on the Amman Stock Exchange spend on CSR?
“Despite the declines in CSR expenditure during 2017, companies listed on the ASE’s primary market managed to increase their spending on CSR in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, the 60 Jordanian companies listed on the primary market of the Amman Stock Exchange (“ASE”) spent JD 39 million on CSR activities constituting 3.2% of their total net profit.” Hiba Rabadi, Arab Advisors Group’s Deputy GM noted.
“In 2019, the Arab Bank and Arab Potash Company contributed 72% of total market CSR expenditure. Additionally, the Arab Potash Company and Jordan Phosphate Mines were the largest contributors to the market CSR’s growth during the same year. The Arab Potash Company’s CSR expenditure constituted 60% of total market CSR expenditure growth in 2019. The Jordan Phosphates Mines’ CSR expenditure increased by JD 622,650 in 2019, constituting 23% of total market CSR expenditure’s growth in the year.” Omar Jaabari, Arab Advisors Group’s Sr. analyst wrote in the report.
