The UAE has named Maryam Butti Mohammed Al Suwaidi as the new CEO of the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA). She is the first woman CEO at the market regulator.

Al Suwaidi, who has a Doctorate in Law from the University of Leeds, UK, and a master’s degree in Commercial Law from the University of Wales, UK, was previously the deputy CEO at the SCA.

The decision comes as part of the efforts taken by the UAE government to develop the equity markets.
