Muscat: The Executive Council of the World Health Organisation has approved the proposal of the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Switzerland on the "Global Health for Peace" initiative, which seeks to strengthen and activate the link between health, social cohesion and peace.

The Ministry of Health said: "The proposal of the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Switzerland on the ‘Global Health for Peace’ initiative has been approved within the meetings of the 150th current session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland. The initiative received great support from member states of the Council."

 

The initiative seeks to strengthen and activate the link between health, social cohesion and peace by focusing on the unique role that public health programmes can play in bringing together different groups and building trust in all components of peace.

This initiative also supports principles related to the success of health programmes and the pursuit of peace dividends through equity, inclusion, participation and leadership.
