The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) has announced donating 10 million ($1.36 million) water bottles, worth Dh5 million, to be distributed with meals in the UAE’s biggest food distribution drive.

In collaboration with Mai Dubai, the donation supports the ’10 million meals’ campaign, launched on Sunday, to provide food assistance to families and individuals affected by the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak across the UAE.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), said: “Amid the global fight against the Covid-19 outbreak, the ’10 million meals’ campaign comes to prove the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and residents through ensuring a decent life to the vulnerable. These difficult times reveal our true values of generosity and humanity.”

“This campaign adds to the UAE’s long journey in humanitarian work, consolidating the country’s status as a global capital for sustainable action thanks to its continuous efforts to safeguard lives in the ongoing crisis,” he added.

The ’10 million meals’ campaign enables entities, companies, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, as well as the general public to purchase a number of meals online or donate packaged and canned food supplies to be distributed to disadvantaged families and individuals from different nationalities living across the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Sunday the launch of the ’10 million meals’ campaign to support families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that left many facing unemployment and income reductions.

The campaign will be led by his wife Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives will oversee the campaign in collaboration with the Social Solidarity against Covid-19.

The UAE Food Bank, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment and Suqia UAE will carry out the campaign through a network of collaborations with ministries, federal and local entities and humanitarian and charitable organizations in the UAE, creating an integrated and wide-ranging distribution mechanism to ensure an efficient food delivery to beneficiaries across the UAE. – TradeArabia News Service
