SHARJAH - Sharjah Municipality has announced the launch of the first phase of the project for numbering of perennial trees, with aim of the preserving the trees, a symbol of the history of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Dr. Thabet Salem Al Tarifi, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, highlighted that Sharjah Municipality attaches great importance to agriculture and works to achieve the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in preserving and caring for various plants.
The project aims to preserve perennial trees, since it tells the story of the forefathers and their role in planting and caring for trees, reflecting the history of the Emirate of Sharjah.
The Director-General of Sharjah Municipality pointed out that the project aims to protect perennial trees, to inform the community of their importance and to preserve them by raising awareness of the need to take care of them by documenting the age of the tree.
Hassan Al Taffaq, Assistant Director-General for Agriculture and Environment, indicated that perennial trees in the city of Sharjah were numbered with the date of their planting, warning against cutting or moving them without permission as such trees protected by law, maintaining that the project will remain ongoing until all trees in all areas of Sharjah are covered.
