An Arab training workshop on “measuring financial and multi-dimensional poverty and childhood poverty in the Arab world” commenced on Tuesday in Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The three-day workshop is organised by the Arab League in cooperation with the Social Development Ministry and with technical support from UNICEF and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

“Multi-dimensional poverty is of great scientific and practical importance, as it links poverty with more than one factor, such as income or expenditure, and takes into consideration the educational, health and living standards factors,” said Social Development Minister Hala Lattouf.

ESCWA representative Mukhtar Hassan highlighted the commission’s keenness to realise integration among national, regional and international efforts and to support the endeavours of the Arab council of social affairs’ ministers in implementing Arab strategies aimed at eliminating poverty.
