Eid Al Fitr will begin on Sunday in Pakistan, Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Saturday.

Saturday will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, and Sunday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr in many countries.

Relevant authorities in the said countries convened Friday evening and could not detect the Shawwal month crescent moon, and therefore declared that Saturday, the 23rd of May, is the last day of Ramadan 1441 H, and that Sunday, the 24th of May, is the first day of the lunar month.

Earlier, UAE and Saudi Arabia made similar announcements.

Pakistan has earlier announced six-day Eid holidays from May 22 to 27 both of public and private sector. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, Friday, May 22 to Wednesday, May 27, will be Eid holidays in Pakistan.
