An isolation facility has been designated as part of increased preventive measures to combat the global spread of coronavirus.
The Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre, near Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), was yesterday identified as an isolation site for people who have come in contact with coronavirus patients.
It comes as a special task force, chaired by Supreme Council for Health president Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, held its first meeting yesterday with the National Disaster Management Committee.
The task force also discussed contingency plans in place to prevent the infection from entering and spreading in the country, along with further clinical management.
“There are plans in place to deal with suspected and confirmed cases,” said the Supreme Council for Health in a statement.
“A special isolation ward has been designated at SMC for those diagnosed with coronavirus, while another isolation facility is allocated at the Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre for those who came in close contact with a patient.”
The task force was formed during Cabinet’s meeting on Monday to beef up measures against the virus and work with different government agencies in dealing with suspected infections in Bahrain.
“The task force has an action plan and medical protocol to combat coronavirus in line with international guidelines,” it said.
“Efforts continue to ensure constant supply of medications, resources and other requirements to fight the lethal virus.”
It added that all passengers arriving from China continue to be screened, stressing that no case has been detected yet.
“Entry ports including the airport continue to be regulated to screen passengers coming from China, as well as Bahraini students coming from China,” it said.
“No coronavirus case has been detected so far.”
Dr Shaikh Mohammed also stressed on the collaboration between all public and private hospitals, as well as a national awareness drive covering different segments of society.
