MANAMA: Bahrain has enough medicine stocks to cover one and a half years in addition to Coronavirus medications for two years, while efforts are underway to import more medicines and medical equipment, said Health Ministry Under-Secretary Waleed Al Manea.

He was speaking as he last night took part in a meeting of the National Committee for Disaster Management held over video, chaired by Public Security chief Maj Gen Tariq Al Hassan.

Under-Secretary for Industrial Affairs Osama Al Arrayed stressed that Bahrain’s strategic food reserves are sufficient for six months.

The ministry has drawn up a list of 14 basic commodities, while large quantities of food products have already reached Bahrain through agreements with local importers, he said.

Meanwhile, Education Ministry Under-Secretary for Resources and Services Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma said preparations are underway to hand over a number of schools to be used as shelters when needed.
