Egypt ready to launch 15mln doses of VACSERA-Sinovac vaccine Tuesday

Egyptian minister of health Hala Zayed announced that around 15 million doses of the VACSERA -Sinovac Vaccine have been produced and are ready to be launched at vaccination centers as of Tuesday, August 24^th.

The number of vaccination centers has been expanded last week to 657 centers across the country, including 512 centers for citizens and 145 centers for travelers, the minister said.

Egypt Health Passport app will be available within days to ease the provision of QR Code vaccination certificates online, Zayed pointed out, adding that 150,000 digital certificates with QR Codes have been issued to-date.

Moreover, the ministry revealed that travelers aged under 18 years old who seek studying or medical treatment are allowed to get vaccinated.

Egypt is working on opening new markets to export the production of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) to the African countries, Zayed said.

VACSERA has a production capacity of up to 1 billion doses a year, she noted, adding that the company has agreed with one of the European producers of COVID-19 vaccines to produce a new certified vaccine by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (EU).

These comments have been made during a press conference held on Monday to present the recent situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
