With Eid to be celebrated in Oman on Tuesday (July 20) and shopping is gearing up at major shopping centres, and traditional souqs, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has urged all to stick to Covid-19 rules and social distancing for a safe Eid.

Since the shoppers are seen rushing for last moment shopping before the beginning of new night lockdown timing that began on July 16, and vehicles speeding to get to their destinations before 5 pm, the ROP has urged all to drive safe and stay safe.

"Staying safe is the responsibility of everyone to help Oman celebrate a safe Eid al Adha. Remember, none is safe until everyone is safe," said an ROP representative.

Commercial outlets across the country are witnessing huge footfall, which is feared as a reason for virus spread. Only a few days are left for Eid ul Adha, and for four days beginning Eid, there will be complete lockdown. This is the reason for rush in shopping outlets.

"I'm here to buy some extra provisions for the whole family of five as we are heading a four-day lockdown starting on Tuesday," Ahmed al Maimani, a public sector employee said while shopping at City Centre Qurum.

Stringent Covid-19 preventive measures are in place at most shopping malls, hypermarkets and all other commercial outlets.

The management of shopping malls admitted that they give safety first preference and shopping next.

"We are experiencing a huge number of people at our various departments because of the Eid and four-day lockdown. Besides, we down our shutters by 3.30 pm due to current night lockdown timing," a representative of the Lulu Hypermarkets told the Observer.

He added that strict Covid-19 protocols were in practice, and crowding was not allowed at any time of the day.

"Strict Covid-19 precautions have been applied at all points of shopping starting from the entrance through various departments and check out counters and we allow customers who follow Covid-19 protocols and temperature checks are cumpolsory for all."
