Former Oman captain Ahmed Mubarak ‘Kanu’ signed a one-year deal with Al Suwaiq in 2021-2022 footballing season. The Northern Batinah team presented Kanu to media on Saturday night in presence of HH Sayyid Firas bin Fatik al Said, Chairman of Al Suwaiq club, and top officials of the team.
“Al Suwaiq is one of the top teams in the Sultanate. A special thanks to the chairman and board directors of the club on their confidence in me to represent the team in the new season 2021-22. They have proper plans to accomplish many achievements in the new season. There is a big fan base for the team,” Ahmed ‘Kanu’ said.
“It is a new challenge with Al Suwaiq club. I am looking forward to a successful season with the team. With the team players, I am sure to deliver a top season with the fans’ support,” he added.
Al Suwaiq have won the HM Cup for three times and lifted league title four times. Besides Kanu’s agreement, the team has managed to have the services of Omar al Fazari, Ahmed al Khamisi, Issam al Subhi, Yousuf al Malki, Al Abd al Noufli, Shawqi al Maawali and Ahmed al Siyabi. The team is under supervision of the Austrian coach Mladen Posavec.
Meanwhile, Oman national team goalkeeper Fayez al Rushaidi and Zaher al Aghbari will play in Iran league next season. Both the national team players will appear with Mes Rafsanjan Football Club. The Iranian team signed with Omani players after a solid show from the duo during the Asian World Cup qualifiers.
Former Oman player Said al Ruzaiqi will join Al Nasr club in the next season as he signed a contract which will be valid for one season. Salah al Yahyaee renewed his contract with Al Seeb club for another one year. Sami al Hasani and Abdulaziz al Shamosi joined al Nahdha after joining the Al Buraimi-based team.
All the local clubs are busy gearing up for the new season which will start in October.
