AMMAN - A total of 5,600 patients received treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) in 2019, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.

Last year, the centre received donations that covered the treatment of 737 patients, the transport fees of 959 patients and accommodation costs for 629 patients who live in remote areas, Petra said, citing a KHCC statement.

As part of its efforts to ensure sustainable cancer care, the KHCC, which receives patients of all ages from across the country, has also launched the Cancer Care Programme (CCP), a programme that covers treatment costs at the centre, with the number of subscribers reaching 208,304.

Members can choose from four coverage options for amounts up to JD10,000, JD15,000, JD20,000 and JD 30,000, according to KHCC’s website.

The KHCC welcomes subscribers of all nationalities, regardless of age, given that they have no prior history of cancer, the source added.

The centre also activated the early detection of breast cancer, with 6,000 women taking advantage of the mammogramme.

The centre also provided free early testing for some 3,951 women in remote areas and governorates through mobile mammography units.

In 2019, the KHCC was awarded MAGNET accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC), to become the first oncology hospital outside of the US that enjoys membership to the MAGNET Recognition Programme.

In cooperation with the University of West England (UWE Bristol) and the University of Jordan, the KHCC launched the first-of-its kind master’s programme in Cancer Care Informatics.

The centre also provided training for 399 medical cadres from the Kingdom and the region through conferences and symposiums.

Last year, HRH Crown Prince Hussein inaugurated the “Heroes Cave” children's waiting area at the KHCC, which was refurbished upon Crown Prince Hussein’s request, to provide a convenient and comforting environment for young patients at the centre.
