The Dibba Fujairah Municipality has shut down three pharmacies and slapped eight others with fines this year for selling expired products, and flouting coronavirus precautionary measures.
According to official data, nine laundries have been fined over the same period for failing to process or renew health cards for staff, and for not having the required licence to conduct commercial activity.
Eng Hassan Salem Al Yamahi, Director General of the Municipality, said the department of public services and environment carried out 386 inspection visits this year so far.
“These included 185 visits to the pharmacies and 201 laundries across the city and its suburbs.”
Some of the visited entities were fined for ignoring public hygiene, while others were found to be selling expired food and cosmetic products, he stated.
More inspection raids are to be deployed round the clock in line with the ongoing preventive measures to curb Covid-19 infection and transmission, Eng Yamahi underlined. “Erring institutions shall be penalised with zero tolerance.”
He urged the public to report any such violations to the civic body to stop such illegal practices.
