RIYADH: The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at Al-Bathaa port has prevented an attempt to smuggle SR2,765,000 abroad.

The authority said that while a customs agent was processing the exit papers for a truck leaving the Kingdom, authorities found the cash, which was concealed inside the rear axles of the truck.

All necessary legal measures have been taken against the smugglers, the authority confirmed.

It added that all travelers entering or leaving Saudi Arabia carrying any currency, monetary instruments, gold bullions or precious metals, stones or fine jewelry valued at SR60,000 or more must declare them through its smartphone app or its official website, by visiting the link: www.customs.gov.sa/ar/declare.

Travelers are required to fill out the declaration form and submit the reference number to the customs upon departure/arrival.

The authority said in case of non-declaration, a monetary fine of 25 percent of the seized value is imposed. The penalty can be doubled if the violation is repeated or in the case of a false statement.

If there is suspicion of a link between the seizures and criminal activities or money laundering, the full amount will be seized, and the violator will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
