RIYADH - The president of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha), Mazen bin Ibrahim Al-Khamous, has lauded Energy Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman’s decision to allow it to review the smart electricity meters project. 

He said that a working group from Nazaha had been formed to pursue the subject and meet with the project’s team, with the participation of the Saudi Electricity Co., the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority, the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, and the Communications and Information Technology Commission.

He noted that his commission aimed to enhance transparency and encourage investments in accordance with regulations, in a way that benefited citizens and residents, and that the commission would confirm the integrity of the processes adopted in the bidding and selection for the project. 

He added that all government bodies were responsible for completing the bidding and selection procedures in accordance with the regulations, and for working to implement their projects in a way that safeguarded public interest and sustainable development.

Al-Khamous confirmed that Nazaha would investigate in cases of suspected financial or administrative corruption, and would ensure the implementation of rules and regulations.
