Qatar - Municipal inspectors have been deployed at picnic spots like public parks, beaches, and Corniche to curb the violation of the provisions of environment and hygiene laws during the Eid Al Fitr festivity.

According to the provisions, the visitors are required to maintain hygiene in public places by throwing waste in designated containers; avoiding the destruction of plants and ecosystems, and making fire directly on the sand among others.

Leaving or throwing food waste in parks, beaches, public areas, or open spaces is a violation that is punishable by law with a fine of up to QR10,000.

“Municipal inspectors have been deployed at picnicking places and public parks to curb the violations related to hygiene and preserving the environment,” said Dr. Nawal Mohamad Abdullah, First Expert of Food Inspection at the Ministry of Municipality.

Speaking to Qatar TV recently, she said that under the preparation of the Ministry for Eid Al Fitr festivity, the municipalities intensified monitoring of public parks, beaches, and other public places.

“The Ministry of Municipality through its unified call center No.184 and Oun app receives complaints about violations and remarks of people around the clock,” said Abdullah.

The Ministry of Municipality also made a series of posts on social media urging people to adhere strictly to the law while picnicking during the festivity.

“Let’s make our trip to the beach healthy, enjoyable, and environmentally friendly by refraining from harmful practices during grilling, being careful not to directly light fires on the sand, and safely disposing of waste in designated containers,’ the Ministry tweeted.

The Ministry of Municipality has prepared public parks to receive visitors during the Eid Al Fitr vacation.

“Let’s all contribute to maintaining their cleanliness by not littering and reporting any violations through the Ministry online application Oun,” the Ministry added.

“Let’s preserve the beauty of our parks and beaches. Let’s commit to not littering on the ground and collaborate to maintain their cleanliness.”

The Ministry of Municipality and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in coordination with authorities concerned are running intensified campaigns to curb the violations of the provisions of hygiene law and preserve the environment.

The Ministry of Municipality, represented by Doha Municipality, had organised an awareness session under the slogan “Be a partner, not a reason”, to raise awareness of the Public Hygiene Law, in the presence of several officials and representatives of companies working in this field.

The session aimed to promote awareness of Hygiene Law No. 18 of 2017, which contributes to improving public behaviour and enhancing a sense of responsibility among all segments of society.
