Bahrain  - MPs yesterday voted unanimously to stop plans to relocate food trucks from all sites by tomorrow.

They are demanding that the Cabinet first come up with proper legislation to regulate the business.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority issued a circular last week inviting owners of food trucks on Estiqlal Highway to register on the authority’s website for the relocation, renewable on a monthly basis.

The Youth and Sport Affairs Ministry has already made arrangements in an open area opposite the Bahrain National Stadium for entry and exit points and lighting.

Registration conditions include a BD126 fee covering five per cent VAT, space rental, sales points and electricity, in addition to a BD100 guarantee deposit.

Working hours are from 4pm to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and from 4pm until midnight Thursday to Saturday.

Other proposals approved yesterday include:

l Providing infrastructure facilities for Hamad Town;

l Stopping plans to turn a government plot into a club instead of a school;

l Allowing students born between October and December 2013 to go to grade two rather than start from grade one after passing tests due to their age difference;

l Coming up with a government study to possibly repay outstanding loans for Bahrainis in need or in difficult financial situation;

l Establishing a national student protection platform;
