A man who tested positive for Covid-19 will stand trial for failing to abide by rules put in place to curb the spread of the pandemic.
He allegedly refused to comply when officials requested to reveal the identities of those he came in contact with.
The Bahraini could be fined up to BD10,000 if found guilty of breaking Covid-19 rules.
“The defendant did not co-operate with authorities and will stand trial after refusing to reveal who he came in contact with,” the Chief of Ministries and Public Entities Prosecution said in a statement yesterday.
“He put other people’s lives at risk.”
The Public Prosecution urged people not to hide their infection and to co-operate with the authorities in charge of contact tracing.
Bahrain yesterday recorded 413 new cases of Covid-19 alongside 229 recoveries and two fatalities, the Health Ministry said.
A Bahraini man, 63, and a Bahraini woman, 47, died yesterday, taking the total deaths to 369.
Of the new cases, 202 were expat workers, 204 contacts of active cases and seven travel-related. An additional 229 people recovered, taking the total to 96,761. Of the 3,100 active cases, 50 are receiving treatment and 18 in critical condition.
Bahrain has so far registered a total of 100,230 cases. The kingdom has also conducted 2,637,879 tests for Covid-19.
