BEIRUT: Following complaints from Justice Palace employees in Jounieh and Jbeil, Justice Minister Albert Serhan Thursday called for the digitization of all files at the offices.

Serhan made the comments after touring the facilities, examining their infrastructure and listening to employees needs and complaints.

Throughout the tours, which were partly televised, files could be seen stacked in the open.

Local media accompanying him reported that the offices infrastructure and conditions were a large part of the employees complaints.

Serhan said in a news conference after the tours that digitization of the records would help solve the problem of clutter and alleviate some the employees concerns.

I will do all I can to fill the gaps and find appropriate solutions, Serhan said.

The judges are working as hard as they can and judicial assistants are carrying out their duties, the state-run National News Agency quoted Serhan as saying.

But there are deficiencies in the absence of digitization, which is very important and necessary.

The minister added that cases of judicial abuse were also currently being investigated.

The judiciary is not corrupt, but there are some abuses, and today these abuses are under investigation by the relevant security apparatuses, Serhan said.

In its policy statement, the new government had committed to implementing a framework for a digital transformation of Lebanons public institutions.

According to the NNA, the justice minister also toured the courthouse in Batroun and met with Judge Nada Maalouf.

During the tour, Serhan promised to work on meeting the courts needs.
