RIYADH: Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Maait on Sunday ordered the formation of a committee to establish an electronic system at all air, sea and land ports to facilitate refund of value-added tax on foreign visitor’s purchases on their departure from Egypt.

VAT will be refunded on purchases exceeding 1,500 Egyptian pounds ($95).

The electronic system will be managed by a specialized company in cooperation with an international firm and is expected to start operations in Sharm El Sheikh before the end of this year, the minister said in a statement.
