Egypt’s First Lady Intisar Al-Sisi announced, on Sunday, that caring for children and young people is one of the country’s priorities.
She added that setting them as a priority will create a new creative generation that is able to fulfil Egypt’s hope for a bright future.
Under the First Lady’s auspices, Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem held a press conference, to announce the launch of the State Award for Young Creators.
In a recorded speech, Al-Sisi asserted that the award is a dream for all Egyptian children, and aims to raise new generations capable of achieving Egyptian dreams and aspirations.
The new award, aimed at Egypt’s young generation of innovators, will be granted on an annual basis to anyone aged under 18 years in the fields of arts and culture.
Last August, the House of Representatives approved a draft law submitted by the Ministry of Culture to create the new award. It reflects the country’s commitment to create an environment that stimulates innovation and encourages young talents in arts and culture fields.
The Award is divided into two age groups, with the first for those from 5 to 12 years old, while the second age group is teenagers between 12 and 18 years old. The financial value for each group of age is about EGP 40,000 in different fields.
There are three different fields of the award, with the culture segment including story writing, poetry, and drawing. The arts field includes playing violin or cello and singing.
The field of creativity and innovation, includes designing computer or mobile applications and websites to simplify science, explain part of the school curriculum, or to raise awareness of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, or to provide cultural and artistic contents.
The innovation field also includes any innovation that aims at simplifying science or assisting people to adhere to precautionary measures against the Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Abdel Dayem asserted that the winners of the awards will be sent on scientific missions of up to three weeks or a month. This comes in addition to organising external and internal tours for the winners to promote their talents.
She emphasised that the support her Ministry will provide for the award winners will be more important than the financial value of the award.
