French construction firm NGE and its subsidiary TSO have signed a contract to construct 330 kilometers of Egypt’s high-speed electric train line, the company said in a statement on February 23rd.

As per the contract, NGE subsidiary TSO will work with Egyptian builders Orascom and Arab Contractors.

However, the value of the contract has not been disclosed.

The firm said works will commence in early 2023 and will require the mobilization of up to 500 people on the site.

It will connect the Red Sea port of Ain Sokhna to Borg Al-Arab near Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, running through the Cairo satellite town 6th of October City.

“We are proud to make a significant contribution to this project, which will provide nearly 90% of the Egyptian population with access to fast and reliable public transport,” Orso Vesperini, COO International and Major Projects at NGE, said.

“It will also make a significant contribution to sustainability by shifting freight traffic to rail and stimulating Egypt’s economic development,” Vesperini added.
